5 Ways to Boost LinkedIn Engagement

LinkedIn has roughly 800 million users, and of these users, 48% are active monthly. This may not seem like many people compared to other social media platforms such as Facebook or Instagram, but what makes LinkedIn special is that it is used for business and career purposes. On average, the individuals who use LinkedIn tend to have more money and higher levels of education than the users of other social platforms. 51% of college graduates in the United States use LinkedIn, and 71% of LinkedIn’s users have annual incomes greater than $50,000. This makes LinkedIn an excellent platform to use for marketing yourself (or your business)!

Especially when just getting started on LinkedIn, it can be difficult to gain traction. We’ve compiled a list of things you can do to increase your engagement and exposure on LinkedIn!

1.       Connect with people

While it’s good to have a lot of connections, you also want to make sure that the connections you have are quality connections. When getting started on LinkedIn, the best way to gain connections quickly is to sync your phone contacts and connect with people that you already know. Continue to add your real-world connections to your LinkedIn network as well. After you meet someone at a conference, networking event, etc., find them on LinkedIn and connect with them! Another way to get the most out of your connections is to connect with people that LinkedIn recommends that are in the same industry as you or are relevant to you in another way. You can choose to send a personalized message when inviting someone to connect, and if you want to take it a step further, ask to schedule a meeting with them to get to know them once they accept your invitation!

2.       Write and Post Consistently

One of the best ways to stay relevant and top-of-mind is to remain consistent with how often you post. Posts can include videos, photos, quotes, LinkedIn articles, reposts, and so much more. The possibilities for what you can post or write are endless. While you want to be consistent, make sure that every post you make is also adding value for your audience. Don’t be afraid to be authentic and show some personality in your posts! This will make you stand out from others and is bound to increase your levels of engagement.

3.       Join LinkedIn Groups

LinkedIn Groups provide a great opportunity to network with people who have similar interests as you. Joining a group will also allow you to learn more about your industry or topic of interest from reading articles and posts made by other members of the group. If you choose to actively participate in a LinkedIn Group, it’s not only a great way to educate others, but it also positions yourself as a thought-leader.

4.       Show Interest in Other People

One of the easiest ways to increase your engagement is to first show interest in other people. Commenting and interacting with other posts is a great way to get your name out there and to establish familiarity and comradery with other LinkedIn members. Sharing your thoughts, advice, or feedback on posts from other also builds trust and makes your connection stronger. Stronger connections are more likely to engage with your content.

5.       Promote Your LinkedIn Page Outside of LinkedIn

Another great way to drive traffic and engagement to your LinkedIn page is to promote it outside of LinkedIn. There are many ways you can do this. Including a LinkedIn icon that links to your profile in email signature and on your website is a great place to start. You can also recycle your LinkedIn content to use on your other social media platforms to give yourself a shoutout!
