Brand Identity 101

What is Brand Identity?

Your brand identity is how your audience views you/your company. Brand identity is much more than just your logo, colors, or advertisements. It also includes your unique offerings, core values, customer/client interactions, mission, and value propositions.

In the eyes of your audience, your brand identity can consist of past experiences, expectations, reliability, referrals, and relationships. Brand identity is what distinguishes you or your company from another.

How to Create a Strong Brand Identity

The first step to building your brand identity is to understand who you’re trying to reach and what makes you different from your competitors. To do this, you should do some research to determine your niche. You should also identify and research some of your competition so you are able to see what makes you unique, and this will help you build your value proposition.

Now that you’ve done some external research, you’re ready to start your internal analysis. Think about how you want your audience to view you/your brand. What is your mission and future goals? Think about qualities and personality traits that are brand-specific when building your brand identity.

Once you’re confident with your brand identity, the last step is to share it with others! You can communicate your identity through logos, colors, fonts, on your website, etc. Have fun with it but keep it consistent!

Why Do You Need Brand Identity?

Whether you’re building a personal brand identity or a corporate brand identity, a solid identity is essential for marketing success. People are more likely to want to do business with you or your company is they are familiar with you. Also, a consistent brand image makes you or your brand appear reliable, which will build credibility and trust among your audience.

Regardless of your industry, a brand identity is something you can leverage that will make all the difference in gaining and maintaining customers or clients!
